Intelsat was a founding member of GVF, and from day one a Full Member. With a representative on the elected Board of Directors of the association, Intelsat has been engaged throughout GVF’s existence in helping to determine the overall strategic policy direction of the association. It was in 2001 that, after 37 years as an intergovernmental organisation, Intelsat became a private company, and began investing in ground infrastructure and satellites serving the media. Other milestones in Intelsat’s history were the 2006 acquisition of PanAmSat, making Intelsat the largest provider of fixed-satellite services worldwide; the 2012 introduction of ‘Intelsat Epic’, an innovative satellite platform to support the evolving needs of telecommunications providers; the 2016 launch of the first ‘Intelsat Epic’ satellite; and in 2020 achieving both the pioneering of Mission Extension Vehicle technology, and the acquisition of Gogo Commercial Aviation. Now, for over half a century Intelsat has been pioneering the design, delivery, optimisation, innovation, and maintenance of networks, all with the goal of ubiquitous simplicity for its customers. Intelsat provides its customers with full-service implementation and depending on requirements customises solutions that integrate space-based and terrestrial networks.
